Oxenhall "Sale of the Century" Exhibition

We are writing to express our thanks to you for helping with the Then and Now Exhibition, which was so successful. Oxenhall residents, past and present, helped us with our research and gave documents, photos and information that were useful in preparing the display boards. Others loaned artefacts that brought back memories or were used by one generation to tell stories to the next generation.  Many people helped with stewarding, catering, and car parking over the five days as well as setting up and clearing up the exhibition.

We were greatly helped in the presentation of the exhibition by several professionals – Phil Peachey of Gloster Photographic Services for the graphics and printing, Dave Farrants of Foxvideos for photography and DVD, HB Digital Printing for printing and KM Reprographics for scanning and printing. Without the Heritage Lottery Fund there would have been no funding! At the Opening Ceremony their representative Cherry Anne Knott congratulated us on our exemplary use of funds.

We received many encouraging comments from visitors who came from as far away as Edinburgh, Devonshire, Pembrokeshire andSweden. Most of our 900 visitors were from local parishes. They included two classes from Gorsley Goff’s School who went home with punnets of strawberries donated by the Elgies.  People were astonished by the amount of work that had been put in and by the professional standards achieved.

The exhibition material is now in store – mainly in the new archival storage area at the Hall with some larger items at private properties. We look forward to the next stages of our project including the completion of the Oxenhall DVD “Oxenhall in Four Seasons 2012-2013”. It will beavailable in November 2013and can be ordered from any of the ten members of the History Group. We plan to publish a book by 2015 which will contain much of the material from the Then and Now Exhibition as well as further information from our researches. Please tell us about any changes or additional information you would like to see included in the book.

Many thanks from all members of the Oxenhall Parish History Group.
